Our Bus Cancellation Policy

The issue about the cancellation of buses to Northern and other local schools on fog and snow days continues to be confusing for many families. These bus cancellation days should have minimal effect on our school since less than 15% of Northern's student population is bused to school and the majority of our students live within walking distance of the school, or are transported by their parents. Unless the school is closed by the Board of Education due to severe weather conditions, our staff report for work on these days and is present in each of their classes. In the event that a morning bus is cancelled due to fog, it will operate at the end of the day to transport students home. The decision to send students to school based on weather conditions remains solely with parents. Contrary to what you may hear about these "bus cancellation days", we continue with our regular program and are available to assist students. We do not send students home.
